JAPANESE [KIMONO] ?

What do you imagine about Japanese Kimono?
We Japanese took off Kimono and wore Western clothes in recent era,
maybe Meiji era, about one hundred yeas ago.

Many foreigners donft tell Kimono from Yukata.
Kimono is basically made from Kinu(Silk).
The underwear gJubanh is made from silk, too. We wear Kimono and
put the Eri(Collar) of Juban out from Kimono. On the other hand,
Yukata is made from Momen(Cotton). We wear it directly on skin.
It is like a bathrobe. In Chinese letters, Yukata stands for Yu(Bath) and
Kata(Clothes). We used it as a bathrobe and a pajama after bathing.

Even now, we use Yukata as a gown at Japanese inns like a hot spring inn.
We sometimes wear Yukata at summer time in Japan. Some young boys and
girls wear Yukata at summer fireworks events or summer festivals.
But Yukata is not formal wear.

Some Japanese use Kimono at formal time and place such as Hatsumode
(New Yearfs visits to shrines), Marriage Ceremony, Funeral Ceremony etc.
Western suits vary from business suits to morning suits. In the same way,
Kimono varies from casual style to formal style. You, foreigners may enjoy
your unique styles without persisting in Japanese styles.
You may use Juban as a gown, wear Haori(Coat) over the western clothes and
use Obi as a tapestry centerpiece or a wall ornament.

Newly custom-made Kimono is very expensive, over 200,000 Yen.
But we sell used Kimonos, so they are rather cheaper.
The price of Kimono, Juban, Obi etc. is from 10,000 Yen,
but they are made from silk. I think it is rather cheaper,
under one twentieth than newly custom-made ones.
We only sell gSilkh Kimono, Juban, Obi etc.
because they can be called Japanese traditional art works.
Their touch and colors are very beautiful and wonderful!
